Melancholia

I finally got round to buying this film and watching it yesterday. It completes my Lars Von Trier collection of films and i really enjoyed this beautiful film. Who would of thought that the end of the world would look so good. The films opening is stunning and by the end of the film everything comes together with a tense earth shattering moment that will stick in memory for a long time.

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go Film Poster 1
Wow i just finished watching Never Let Me Go and i have to say i was very impressed by it. It is possibly one of the most well crafted, beautifully shot and sublime films that i have seen in such a long time. The story is excellent and i think i need to go out now and buy the book that it is based on by Kazuo Ishiguro. The director Mark Romanek is a genius and i remember seeing his first film Static when it first came out in the 80's and thought that it was a brilliant film then. He then went onto direct various music videos until he made the film One Hour Photo with Robin Williams.

Below is the trailer for the film and also the Nine Inch Nails "closer" video that Mark Romanek also directed.

Kodak Files for Bankruptcy

Such a shame to hear that kodak has filed for bankruptcy after being in the industry for around 131 years. They became such an iconic brand with photography and it just seems so wrong that they did not embrace the digital age as much as other big companies such as Sony, Nikon and Cannon did. It was a case of too little too late for them. This can be the same as companies like Waterstones and WHSmiths not embracing the digital age quick enough or foreseeing the onslaught of the digital or online distribution.
This news came to light on the 20/01/2012.

Lars Von Trier's Anti-Christ

I just bought Lars Von Trier's film Anti-Christ on blue ray disc today. I had forgotten just how powerful that this film was since watching it at the cinema. It is like nothing else out there and for some it can be a hard watch. For me it just makes me want to watch his latest film (Melancholia) even more and that has also just been released on DVD and Blue Ray. The visual tone and imagery of the film for me is its best feature and it is interesting to see how Lars has incorporated blue screen work and computer technology into one of his films. Below is the film poster and trailer to look at.
